wow. glad they made it out.

But it always saddens me when I see that Cheap Trick is playing these kinds of small time shows (like country fairs or nostalgia shows with has been bands). I mean, they were a hugely influential band and by all means should be headlining arena / stadium tours a la AC/DC or Metallica. Can't quite figure out what went wrong there.

They just weren't good, that's what went wrong.

By the way, I saw them at the Palladium in NYC in the early 80's & they were "okay" live.

Oh cmon...I realize the stuff they put out in the 80's wasn't exactly stellar ("The Flame" makes me wanna vomit), but "Live at Budokan" is one of the greatest live albums ever - actually, one of the greatest albums ever, period. Not only that, but just about every major band of the last 30 years - from Motley Crue to Nirvana to Slash and so on - lists them (and the Budokan album) as huge influence.

I mean, I can see why REO Speedwagon, which by now probably features only the original bass roadie, is playing state fairs...but Cheap Trick was always in a different league.

Their remake of "Magical Mystery Tour" is killer. And for me, I LOVE thier '80's stuff.

Actually, that assumption is not necessarily so true anymore. It used to be when you saw a once-big band playing a fair-type venue you knew it was in its death throws but now, especially with state fairs, these bands are being paid quite handsomly as a means to pull people in. ZZ Top played the Oregon State Fair last year and Cheap Trick and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are going to be here this year. Granted, you're probably not going to see U2 playing the Kansas State Fair but anymore I think it's a rare exception to be that big for that long.

I heard about that storm damage on the radio. Sounded like they got lucky. I guess the Cheap Trick Lawyers better be ready.................certainly someone will sue over that!
