I found that a local jobber sells AMD panels. I emailed them:

"Good morning,
While viewing the Auto Metal Direct website, I found that Pro Body Parts is the authorized retailer for their line of replacement panels.
I'm wondering if you keep any of their inventory in stock, or is it brought in only when ordered?

I have a 1968 Dodge Charger that I'm restoring.
I need the following items:

Trunk Lid - 850-2668
Rocker Outer - 450-1468 L
Rocker Outer - 450-1468-R
Underhood Inner Fender - 250-1466 P (Pair)

Could you provide prices for the above?

Thank you,

Robin McQueen"

Their reply:

"Thank-you for your inquiry about AMD parts.
We do stock AMD, currently these are out of stock.
Can get in 2 weeks though to my DC in Winnipeg, MB

Trunk Lid - 850-2668 - $796.00 $569.95
Rocker Outer - 450-1468 L - $420 $299.95
Rocker Outer - 450-1468-R - $420 $299.95
Underhood Inner Fender - 250-1466 P (Pair) - $605 pair $399.95

Please let me know where you are in Canada, as we have several stocking warehouses in each Province.

Here's the problem: the prices are completely wacked!! The prices in red are the online prices. That's almost $700 difference!!
Is there anybody else with more reasonable prices in Canada?

Just checked eBay...
With the US and Canadian currencies almost at par, why would there be such a significant disparity between these two prices?
Surely the cost of shipping wouldn't be that great?  Most certainly Pro Body Parts would be buying them at wholesale pricing.

Is it common to get 100% mark-up on body panels shipped from the US?

I'd prefer to buy my parts here in my hometown, but...

Robin, there is a guy in Halifax area that sells AMD parts, i can't remember his name but he had the 68 for sale at the nationals last year?

covet66

Nigel at National Moparts in Beaverton ( north of Toronto) sells a lot of AMD but not sure what he stocks.

Eldon, I spoke with that guy several times...he's a bit of a jerk. He wants all the money up front, which can be expected sometimes, but he doesn't promise anything for shipping dates, or guarantee his prices.

Yes, I met Nigel at Moparfest last summer. I checked his webpage today and found his prices were entirely reasonable!
I may end up going with him, pending the cost of shipping from Ontario.

Well, the conclusion to this story was rather unexpected! I priced the same tin at National Moparts, and got what I deemed to be as a reasonable price...without even trying.
I fed this information back to Jon at Pro Body Parts. I told him that I would by from him if he matched the new price I'd got.

And he did! Wow!
So, I got the price I wanted, plus I'm not paying for shipping! It's coming directly to my local outlet, which makes it even cheaper than getting it shipped from Ontario.

So now I'm looking forward to cutting a few parts off of my old Charger and "healing" some of the problem areas once and for all! :2thumbs:
