Any military in the UK? I need help with shipping Renault parts to Morón AB

I am now stationed in Spain, and have "inherited" a POS 1989 Renault 5. I have sourced most of the parts I need (brakes, shocks/struts, bushings, mirror....) through www.rockauto.com, and a Renault 5 parts dealer in the UK. The down side is that international shipping will be around $800, for the $300 worth of parts, but if I ship them to a base in the UK, it is $65, and APO to APO shipping is free! If any of you are stationed in the UK, and can help, please let me know!

For those of you those of you who want "the long story" (all one or two of you), here it is. 10 months ago I got to Spain and a coworker was driving this POS with a max speed of about 80 kpm. I learned that years ago someone painted the "Skull Candy" (brand of headphone, and not what some of you may be thinking), and no oil changes in the last 4 years of known history. during those 10 months, I flushed the oil, the coolant (strait water for many years), upgraded to electronic ignition (1989 and still had points and condenser!), got him to put tires where the steal braids were, a alignment (had to stain to keep the steering wheel at 45º to drive strait), rebuilt the carb (no manual), and fabricated the missing retainer that kept a set of pads from falling out. after all this, I got the car as payment for all of the work I put into it. I also help push is over 10 miles multiple times so I could work on it for him (over $1500 ticket for towing, without a tow-truck).

Edit: Also adjusted the rockers so there is now compression on all 4 cylinders, and not just 2/4, of the 1.1L 46HP motor. Now we can get it up to 140 kpm.

Can't help, sorry....... Wish I could..............

So, you're active at Moron AB ??? I was TDY there once in, ohhhhhh, about 2003. Man, I hope the dorms are better now than they were then. But, the base chow hall was pretty good......... Anything to do around there other than bull fights in Moron de la Frontera and looking at the "yellow" hills during Sunflower growing season?

Good luck on getting the parts......

Hemi68charger,

I have about 14 months left of my 2 years here, but Morón AB has been fun. I reside in Utrera, so I am not as isolated as Morón de la Frontera, and the grocery store is less than one minute away so shopping is easy. Down town Seville is 20-30 minutes from my house so my family like seeing the site there on the weekend, assuming we are not on a Mediterranean beach. Plus the job allows me to have the fun of working on a giant telescope. The sunflowers and wheat are growing right now so there are lots of picture opportunities. I recommend this base to anyone who can get past the language barrier, the "isolation" of not being directly surrounded by cities, and the nearly zero family support.

Too bad I had to leave my 72 in CA, it would be a blast to drive out here. I know because my buddy's SRT8 Challenger sure is! I wish the base would just let use use the flight line as as drag strip.

Two years..
Wow.. But, I guess if you've been there a while, then scouting out all the things to do would be of benefit. I guess if you're not living on base, you have a European feel about it all. I was only there for about a week. Was able to head over to Rota and Gibraltar, that was cool. The Mediterranean was awesome.. Take advantage of the duty and learn the "Proper" Castilian Spanish.

Good luck on the tour and which telescope are you referring to?

PS: Just got off Guard Duty... WoooHoooo..........
