We're changing the oil  in the rearend.  what should we use?      8 3/4  suregrip   69 charger RT.      Ken

I run 80w90 gear lube, a synthetic wouldn't hurt.   If it is a clutch style sure grip don't forget to add a friction modifier-(posi lube) the spring-cone style sure grip will be fine without the friction modifier.

Silver R/T

i would recommend royal purple, or any other synthetic

now there a gear lube that has the friction modifier-(posi lube) already in it. Rene
I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

Hi

Same issue here. I have a dana 60. It says in the manual, "only use the multipurpose hypoid gear lubricant part nr:2933565."
I have decided for castrol products all around.
Will this work?

Or is that just for a manual transmission?

Manual transmissions should NOT use any gear oil that has the word HYPOID in the title. The Hypoid  stuff is too slippery for use in manual transmissions. As wierd as it sounds, the stick shifts NEED a slight amount of friction for the synchronizer rings to function properly.

Just 6T9 CHGR

I run regular dino oil 80w-90 with ....  ahem....GM friction modifier

Thanks Red 70 R/T 493  for warning me.  This EPX80W-90 castrol oil is a mineral oil I believe. It says that this oil was developed for spiral bevels and hypoid differentials. It doesnt say it is a hypoid oil. ?!?  I'll better check that with castrol directly.
It says some jibberish letters about which requirements this oil meets in the link I added, but they tell me nothing at all.

So if I am using this oil for the dana 60, I would have to have a supplement, such as "GM friction modifier" ?
