Hello,
I am in the process of rebuilding the steering column in my 69 charger, sounds silly but does the tube with the spring on it have a slight bend in it. Mine does and I am just trying to figure out if that is the way it is supposed to be. any help would be great. This is my wife's car and I am new to Mopars, My thing is Old 50's trucks.

Thanks,
Kyle

Cool, We bought the car about two years ago, and have been rebuilding the car after finding several things that were rigged and not done properly when built. The tube that the steering shaft goes in has a lot of rust and critters inside so I am assuming that the column came out of a junk yard. Don't know if there was any front end damage. It seemed to work fine other than the lower bearings are froze up, and the uppers were dirty and grinding.

There is not that much of a bend, just slightly. I noticed it when I was taking the rust off and as I turned it, I could see it was off just a bit. My big thing is that I want to make sure the car is safe after all the other things wrong I have found and fixed because my wife and kids wil be in this one.

I started a thread in the interior's thread, but see that this might be the place to get some more input.

Here is a link to that thread.

hmmm , think if it worked ok like i mentioned before with no rubbing on the shaft inside &  the sheer pins don't feel loose , think i would run it !  what is the actual  steering shaft like ? :scratchchin:

would not put too much heat  in it depending how your going to remove the rust  , as it might destroy the sheer pins ,  there is a thread some where on here about replacing them  ,  not something i have had to do so can't really advise you should you need to fix that problem , but  thinking some epoxy glue  or windshield glue pumped in may be   :shruggy: :scratchchin:
