Seems they have revised their estimate and said it will be a hidden reconing of the chosen that will culminate in a huge fireball on October 21st.

Harold Camping has been (way) out in left field for a long time.  He's got some very strange beliefs, and it's surprising to me that anyone has followed him.  He made a 1994 prediction of the rapture as well, although it wasn't publicized as much.

As Tilar already mentioned, either a couple of pages in Mr. Camping's Bible have stuck together, or he considers himself to be God the Father:

But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Matthew 24:36 NKJV

I would find the whole situation almost comical, if it weren't for the potential of mainstream Christianity being unfairly lumped together with that group.  Camping represents the outer fringe of Christianity (if he even wants to be viewed under that banner, which is debatable if you research his teaching).

I wouldn't even consider him a Christian at all, he's just a CON ARTIST trying to rip off a bunch of not so smart  people.
