electric fuel pump 3/8 lines

I have 69 charger with 3/8 lines and need an electric fuel pump, because my mech pump wants to run the battery down, before fuel is pumped far enough to start the car.  Is there anything I can hook up with a toggle to pump the fuel to the carb and then turn off and then let the mech pump do its job?

Sure, just splice it in to teh flex line back by the tank, hook up a swtich, and there you go.

Other alternative is to manually fill the fuel bowls through the bowl vent before cranking over the car. I occasionally need to do this on my truck when it sits for extended periods of time.

How long is it sitting before you start it? You might have other issues somewhere else. I had my charger sitting for nearly a month, would came in the garage and within a few cranks she was up and running.

Not all electric pumps are designed to let the mechanical pump "pull through" them, check with the makers to see if they will allow full flow through them. Even some that seem to allow flow through at low speeds will restrict at higher speeds.

If you don't like the idea of a stand-alone electric pump just use it to boost the mechanical pump and leave it powered up with the ignition rather than an on-off switch.

Sorry I do have a 69..lol  If I leave it and dont start it for a couple of weeks, my filter is empty, and it seems like my mech takes forever to fill the bowl.  I dont think anything is wrong with the mech pump because i bought it new and the car not ran that much.  Also the mech is a carter pump.

Then fill the bowl before firing it up. A small funnel and a length of hose stuck in a bowl vent makes this an easy exercise. Only takes a few minutes to accomplish.

Check the fuel pump push rod to see if its worn......search for my thread on the subject

Is the choke working correctly? I would check that first off. Mine sits for weeks at a time, It has no choke, 4 pumps of the gas pedal and it fires right up. Next time before you try to start the engine look down the throat of the carb and open the throttle. You should see plenty of gas squirting in to the carb. If your float bowls are really dry in just two weeks something else is wrong. The float bowls should hold fuel for a very long time.

 had a electric  ac delco street pump  on mine  when i got it  !!  second owner plumbed it in via a switch on the dash !!    no resistance when pump is off  , when i tested it ,  that i can remember  , as i wondered the same thing when being switched off ,  never put it back on after the resto , just run a hemi street pump now ,

was good with the electric pump though !! if car not been started for a few days  , flip switch  for three seconds , then crank the motor !!
was thinking of putting it back for a couple of reasons

    Used holley electric and wired it to ignition off toggle switch in  under dash.  Works great, no mechanical,  but its still there in case of emergency.  Like to have switch off before firing it up, just to    do some pre-oil before vrooom da ada da. Love that sound.  Much better at top end speeds with just the electric.
