Shifter Cable quesion

I recently installed a B&M shifter and have yet to secure the cable to the floor pan.  In the instructions, it says to put a heat shield between the cable and exhaust pipe so it doesn't compromise integrity.  But how close does it have to be to require a heat shield?  I'm not routing right over the exhaust.  It will be a few inches away so it it necessary?

Id say a few inches is on the safe side, maybe run it for awhile and see how hot it gets...im betting youd be ok though.

Thanks Frank.  I'm hoping their suggestions are overkill just to cover their asses if it does fail.

You'll find that most of the complaints with cable shifters relate to melted cables, I'd shield it even at a few inches.

I recommend HP Armor material. Space shuttle quality. You need and want to overkill this potential problem. My cable unfortunately sits on the header (Hemi, TTI, no space) and the stuff works.
