Hi Guys,

Starting to go through some of the wiring on my car, usual sort of stuff after 40 odd years of add-ons, changes and some hack jobs of the past.
Lots of dodgy stuff gone on under the dash and engine bay but am slowly working through it, the problems today are;
1 )No console lights going on when the door is open or shifter light when main lights are turned on
2) No reverse lights
3) And No inhibit function or wiring

What I found when I removed the interior and carpet was that the console loom was cut and left  :brickwall:, unbelievable, probably explains some of the blown fuses etc. Also , no lamps, lamholders or anything else in there.

So, can someone please put up some pictures of "How it should Look in 1968"

Is the automatic trans reverse switch mounted on ( a) the shifter like a micro limit switch or is it ( b ) in the trans and comes up through the floor ?( pic 2)
Is the inhibit switch as above?? so it will only start in P or N?

The 5 wires I have there are as per the digram, just need to know how to put it all together, likely I will make do with some junkyard/jappa lampholders for the console light at the moment until I get the correct items.

Thanks

Bob

Ghoste

I thought for 68 it had the reverse light switch mounted on the shifter and a single wire neuttral safety switch down at the trans.

Bob T

Ok, Cheers Ghoste, somewhere to start anyway.

I'll keep diggin  :scope:

Any 68 owners with a been there done that, please chime in. Thanks

I'll go out and take some pictures and post them and an explanation for you after dinner :2thumbs:

Alright, here we go:

This first picture is the wiring for the console end of things. As Ghoste said, the switch that controls the reverse lights mounts on the shifter. I think I can see it there in your picture. It plugs directly into the connector shown in the picture.:

And here is the floor connector, even missing the plastic part it's just a matter of matching the colors:

This is where the console harness ties into the rest of the dash harness and the door jamb switches.:

This is a picture of where the neutral safety switch connects to the starter relay. 1968 uses a single post NSS at the trans; that's where the single black wire in this picture is headed. The switch on the trans grounds this wire only when in Park or Neutral, which completes the circuit and allows the engine to turn over Not sure why the one you show is a flat blade type connector, the switches are usually pin-type from what I've seen.

I hope that helps! Any questions or specific picture requests, just ask :2thumbs:

No problem, glad to help and good luck! I took the liberty of turning the virtual beers into real ones ;D

Hope those beers tasted good  :icon_smile_big:

Been a busy few weeks, car has been at a mates panelshop getting some issues sorted then I trailered it home, threw the seats and console in it and then trailered it to a weekend campout carshow. Then packed it up in the rain, trailered it home and then trailered it back to the panelshop 07.00 Monday morning. Likely will pick it up  on Friday and start the wiring this weekend hopefully
Then aiming for road legal compliance in a week or so after that. I have a mate of mines wedding on the 18th Feb, so the deadline is looming

Your pics are most helpfull and greatly appreciated  :2thumbs:
