I saw this list on an eBay auction for hood hinges from a Dodge Ram:

QuoteThis part will fit these makes and models with these options

CHARGER 66-70
DODGE 100 PICKUP 72-89
DODGE 150 PICKUP 78-93
DODGE 200 PICKUP 72-80
DODGE 250 PICKUP 81-93
DODGE 300 PICKUP 72-80
DODGE 350 PICKUP 81-93
DODGE 400 PICKUP 77-80
DODGE 450 PICKUP 81
DODGE PASS. 66 Coronet
DODGE PASS. 67 Coronet and R/T
DODGE PASS. 68-70 Coronet, Super Bee and R/T
PLYMOUTH PASS. 66 Belvedere and Satellite
PLYMOUTH PASS. 67 Belvedere, Satellite and GTX
PLYMOUTH PASS. 68-70 Belvedere and Satellite
PLYMOUTH PASS. 68-70 Road Runner and GTX
RAMCHARGER 74-93
TRAIL DUSTER 74-81

Is that list accurate? If the hood hinges from ~20 years worth of Dodge pickups are the same as the ones in a '69 Dodge Charger that will make it a lot easier to find some in a local junkyard (thus avoiding shipping costs).

They may physically fit, but they are visually incorrect. They used a coiled up flat spring rather than a regular coil spring. I remember a few decades ago when Year One first started up, they had advertised in their catalog those flat-coil type of hinges for sale stating they would fit B-bodies but were visually incorrect.

Any '68 - '70 B-body hood hinge will fit & be visually correct for a '68 - '70 Charger.

Here are a couple links to ones that use normal coil springs, one from a '79 and the other from an '89:

Link 2

You can see normal coil springs in the hood hinges of this truck too:

I can see minor visual differences, like the style of rivets used and the two curved slots in the back of each mounting plate, but as long as they would physically fit/work, that's fine by me.

I know that newer Rams use the coiled flat springs like you mentioned (like these) but those don't look like they would even physically fit.

don't think i would even bother !!

good hood hinges are vital for alignment !!  even if you find a good used pair visualy , the rivit/pins are prolly worn , & when you shut the hood it will be a minum of 1/8" to high at the back  :

get some rebuilt ones from SMS  , or  repoped ones ! but   think rebuilt would be the only way o would go  :Twocents:

do it once !!  :yesnod:

**** EDIT***** just looked at the hinges in the links  you posted !! don't look anything like a second generation  charger hindge  ,

I'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars for hood hinges. This isn't a restoration, it is a "get it on the road" thing for a rough 318 car. The mounting holes are slotted anyway, which gives you a degree of adjustment up and down.

My original hinges are bent all out of shape; they make the hood sit about 6" high in the back and off at an angle to boot. It looks like the hood was pushed into a tree while it was mounted by itself, i.e., without fenders, grill, bumper, etc. Fortunately the hood didn't suffer any major damage. It was bent down some on the front left corner, but was easily straightened to be usable.

oh right yeah i see what your saying !! :yesnod: :2thumbs:

but looking at them orange hinges, looks like they have some extra movenemt , see the slots , think the hood travel on them hinges ! goes slide forward & up , & down & slide back towards the cowel ! , think IF you could get it gapped up , IF they did work on a charger , but that sliding extra movemet could allow the hood to hit the cowel

*****EDIT**** although looked closer , ignore the sliding back to the cowel!  , don't think it does now !! :slap: :scratchchin: :shruggy:

just trying to help  :yesnod: :popcrn:

I can confirm that Dodge pickup truck hood hinges work perfectly on a second generation Charger.

As I said before, my original hinges were bent all out of shape because it looks like the hood was pushed into something while moving the car around a junkyard, and without the fenders, bumper, or grill installed, the hood got pushed back at an angle, bending the hinges in the process. The hood was sitting at least 6" high in the back and off at an angle to boot.

I went up to the local junkyard, owned by a friend of mine. He had his old Dodge pickup outside with the hood up, and I looked at the hinges and they looked to be functionally the same as Charger hood hinges. I said, "I need some hinges like the ones on your truck." He looked confused and said, "You mean you need hinges for a Charger." I told him they were the same thing but he was skeptical. He then looked it up in his book and it said the same thing as that list I posted in the OP. He has plenty of those trucks in his junkyard, so 10 minutes later I had a pair of them (they look like in the links I posted). He also had a newer Dodge Ram in his garage (pre-'94 though) that had the flat spring style of hinges that bill440rt mentioned, so they probably switched to that style sometime in the early '90s.

My hood is now on with good alignment and is level, and it opens and closes smoothly. I see no functional difference between these hinges and originals. Those little curved slots in the back of the mounting part that Tan Top pointed out in the picture don't affect the function at all (they don't add any extra movement; the hood just goes up and down like it is supposed to, the same as on a Dodge Ram). They are just there for added side-to-side strength I assume.
