Bill as far as I kow the vapor canister was an emissions control item...with a 512 the only emissions you'd have to worry about is burnt rubber!

Toss the thing!!

Just make sure to put it aside & not in the dumpster.....you'll be looking for it one day!

That is a liquid / vapor separator. The tank vents through it. Liquid drains back to the tank, vapors are routed forward to the under hood activated carbon (charcoal) canister.

Without it, the tank will not vent properly and you'll fight vapor lock. You can't just plug everything off. There are ways to effectively bypass it though.

That being said, if functioning properly, it will reduce the amount of gas fumes in the garage, as well as fuel lost to evaporation. They aren't bad things, and are not detrimental to performance. So if it's working, keep it.

The hoses do rot out and leak, and the canister itself can rust out and leak. Be on the look out for those two issues.

The canister is mint, but the lines are rotted.I would probably have to make the lines up.I don't think they sell them. Thanks for the info.

Hoses are just standard fuel hose. Nothing special unless you insist on the factory-correct KV hose.
