Having trouble installing the pulley on a Saginaw Power Steering Pump I had rebuilt.  Sent the pump out some years ago to have the exact pump rebuilt.  Place removed the pulley, so I could have it powder coated.  I cannot intall the pulley and do not want to try to tap it on.  I heard of some putting the pump in the freezer and heating the pulley.  Other ideas are pressing it on.  Anyone have experience and/or have a picture of the press/tool I will need.

Thanks.

Did the inside of the pully hub get powder coated too? If so it's not going on until that paint is off.

,  check the woodruff key on the pump shaft ,  might of put a burr on it when removing /installing it  !!   :yesnod:

The pulley start on to the shaft correctly, but will only go about 1/8-1/4 inch.  How much of a burr would you put on the key.

who ever rebuilt the pump  might of done this  , only takes a tiny nic in the key to stop the pulley  ,  but having said this  some are a little tight , while  others can be pushed on !! the pulley is pushed  on  when you tighten the nut !!

Thanks.  I'll take a closer look at the key and see if there are any burr's.  Also, the biggest problem is I cant push the pulley far enough on to expose the threads...that's why I might have to press it on.

remove the key and see if the pulley goes on the shaft, if it does clean the key up.
if it still doesn't go on take a look at and possibily some emory cloth to either the pump shaft or inside the pully shaft bore till you get a slight interference fit.

If the shaft end is not threaded it needs to be pressed on. Do not hammer it on. Saginaw uses 2 types of shafts press on and bolt on.
