Hey Guys,

Having issues with my dipstick tube, its a milodon tube

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-22070/?rtype=10

It slides right into my block without any resistance so i know im going to have sealing issues.

Any ideas on how i can remedy this?

Its basically the last item before i bring it to the dyno on wenesday  :brickwall:

:scratchchin:

is there an o-ring on the tube?

bull

You might try coating the base with Hylomar before installing it but it really should be a tight fit. Something is wrong with that tube IMO.

FLG

Nope.

:RantExplode:

Is there supposed to be a bottom o ring? There's no machined area on the bottom for one to slip into. I h don't have the packaging anymore but I remember it being the correct part # also it seems to be the correct length.

Does anyone have a measurement for the hole diameter?

I think so bull. I might order a sock replacement and another milodon from summit tomorrow for next day.

Or does ma mopar sell a replacement at the dealer?

Seems like every rigid tube I've got in recent years was too big, had to sand them down to fit.

I would guess that the end is intentionally made small so it installs easy, it'd be pretty hard to drive that in and get it out otherwise; I'd just smear a generous amount of RTV on the end and depend on the top bracket to hold it in place.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

There are still stock replacement tubes and sticks available through the dealer. That's what I bought (tube only).

Thanks guys.

Might order a cheapie one for the dyno run.

Can't seem to find an o-ring that would work without a groove in the tube for it. Maybe some permatex and teflon tape for the time being.

another suggestion.... take a round tapered punch and tap it into the lower end of the tube and make it a little bigger...

large amount of silicone will not seal forever....any movement on the tube will work that loose and you will have a leak

Frank, what I did with mine when I got a new dip stick tube was to put a little bit of RTV on the tube.  So far no leaks and I really wouldn't worry about it vibrating and causing leaks since it attaches to the one bolt for the motor mount.

Thanks Guys!

I decided to wing it.

I took out a marker traced a line around it and took out my dremel and used a cut off disk to make a groove in the bottom, slipped an o ring into the groove and some permatex and it went in with a bit of force, seems to be nice and tight

kamkuda

I just put that same dipstick on my car yesterday.  The instructions suggested a bit of RTV to seal it.

I'm sure the rtv would have been fine but the o-ring is a good idea  :2thumbs:

FWIW ; every Mopar dipstick i've installed had to be ground down but the 440 Source dipstick that I installed in the 446 fit like a glove with no mods. Go figure  :icon_smile_big:

O your so lucky.... it fitted that easy  ;)
This is what I didn't to make my Milodon dip stick, fit and clear.
Buy a' fit all' dip stick to find it fits FA cut it up, grab some 5/16'' tube and fittings and make your own, also a little grind on the block to up accommodate the fitting  :rotz:

my oil tube has a bracket on it that attaches to the engine mount so it would stay in the hole and I also put a o-ring on there too just in case nice and snug.
