MOPARTS, what do you think of it?

Haven't posted on there (regularly) in over a year. I was on there from my home computer, just looking thru stuff, when all of a sudden my anti virus software started going nuts - my computer was being attacked by trojan viruses /worms. I heard it happened to a couple of other people. Since most of my board activity is while Im at work, I didn't want to risk the same thing happening to my work comp.

Otherwise, I never really felt "comfortable" there like I do here. Most of the reasons have already been brought up by others - too cliquey, selective enforcement of the rules, too much of that penguin nonsense, etc. I got myself "vacations" from there more than once for voicing an opinion that was different from the majority - on threads that shouldn't have been left open in the first place, since they were political in nature and they're against the rules, but it depends on who starts the thread and what their viewpoint is.

With that said, there are a lot of good people on there. I have to say, 99.9% of the folks from there that I've gotten to meet at shows and whatnot have been super nice and affable.

I still check in every now and then, like if I need to promote something, like the upcoming 25th anniversary of the CPW Spring Fling MOPAR show in Van Nuys, CA on April 16-17 (shameless plug  :icon_smile_big:)

On the other hand, if you ask a question there you may get too many different answers, some of which will inevitably be "get rid of the 318 and go with a 440" :eyes:

Yep that's one of the drawbacks about MOPARTS, with so many people it doesn't take much to go off track. Then end up as 2 or 3 members telling each other they are right & the others wrong.

I have found more than a few that give great advise, its just with the large number of people the jerk ratio is also higher.

Moparts is great overall & I can ignore the posts that don't strike my interests easy enough.

The people on Moparts decided that grammar & spelling will be the new point that has to be made in the topic,

Would it be an issue if somebody came on this forum and posted in cryptic Arabic? Trying to decipher the meaning in a post like that one is like trying to read Arabic. Gives new meaning to "the dumbing down of America".

I hate reading things people type in all caps, run on sentences, stupid LOL abbreviations, or grammar so bad that you have to give up. The difference to me, is that maybe one or two people will comment on it here, but on Moparts they go ballistic on each other like a daytime talk show.

At the construction company I work at, I get to work with people that come from all different educational backgrounds. Sometimes I meet engineers with 3 degrees that have no common sense & are arrogant as all hell. In some cases there might be a laborer that didn't finish high school. Maybe the 3 degree guy can type perfect & the laborer can't, but if the laborer has common sense & isn't an arrogant SOB, I'd rather talk with the laborer over a cup of coffee than the engineer.

Same goes for the guy on Moparts that got ripped off & is warning others. I'd rather decode what it is he is trying to say than to listen to the a-hole telling him he's an ignorant dumbass that caused his eyes to bleed reading his post.  :eek2:

Moparts is a great source for information due to the large amount of users. If there is some insignificant detail about Mopars that exists, someone there has knowledge of it. Otherwise, for me, it's just too big to try and keep up with.

Sure they have their share of a-holes just like everywhere you go in life, though more so because of the safety offered by anonymity and distance, but you just call it for what it is and move along.
