there are two '69 daytonas entered in the pro-mod class at this weekend's nhra gator nationals. one is driven by chip king, the other by pete farber. There is also a '70 cuda and a '70 duster trying to make the sixteen car field.

its pretty cool to see these old mopars among the monotony of camaros and corvettes usually found in pro-mod. google shows a few pictures of the two daytonas and youtube has some video clips of both cars, including the links here.

it would be beyond awesome to see the two daytonas lined up against each other in the final round like they are in this clip

Great point. Pirrone's car was beautiful, and helps show how much pro-mods have changed over the years. His Daytona appears to have a lift-off body like a funny car uses. I also ran across one similar looking to Pirrone's that raced in Australia, driven by a Pete Gratz. Not sure of what year(s) it raced.

The two cars running today are neat in that they have operable doors, giving them a look somwhere between a funny car a and pro-stocker. Some photos of the red one show it with an identity crisis, as they added the headlight blackouts of a Superbird to it. Speaking of Superbirds, there was also the texas blue bird that used to race pro-mod, as well. I recall seeing this car for sale on ebay a few years ago, along with the body molds used to build it. the asking price was a fraction of what it cost to build it all.
