I am trying to find a master cylinder for my 68 charger --4 wheel drums--no power--The one I removed has a bolt in the middle with a strap holding it down. I went to napa but the one they had looked differant (had a plate with a single bolt). I ordered one off e-bay that had a pic that looked like mine but when i received it ,it was the same as the one at napa.

Is their anyone that sells the one with the strap?

I always thought the only differance was the rod sticking out the back of it for manual brakes. And if I remember right you just pulled it out for power brakes or popped it in for manual. Did you get the new master cylinder or a reman? Napas web site showed a picture without the strap for both power and manual new and the manual new. The manual power reman showed a picture with the strap. Have your napa guy check the warehouse to see how many they have and if there are several they should be able to get them to look in the box for the style you want. Today there warehouse stocks have been offline but I can see Tampa has 1 of each in stock so there should be a few in the distrbution system. All 4 new and reman power and manual part numbers showed the same 1 inch bore and 1/2"-20 and 9/16"-20 fittings the power reman number is in the MNC line part number P1874

When I went to Napa they did not have the new one ,but they had the reman.--the picture for the reman looked like mine(with the strap) but when he brought it out it looked like the one in my second photo.  He checked the one for power but it looked differant too.

I see Year One sells a rebuild kit , Im thinging about that but I dont have a hone to clean up the bore...

I just bought a new brake cylinder hone at CarQuest for something like $14. It was cheaper to buy the hone and rebuild kits than to buy new wheel cylinders, even though the cylinders are cheap. Call me squeaky and call me paranoid, but I like to know what is inside my brakes. I rebuilt my own front calipers as well.

I just swapped the lids.  :2thumbs:

I was thinking the same thing ....but I would have to make the hole in the strap and lid bigger because the bolt is bigger on the new MC

Has anybody used this type of Hone ---this is for a 1" bore---which is what the bore is on the MC

From my experience, trying to rebuild wheel/master cylinders is futile; they're usually too pitted to save without sleeving.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Ya your right --I think I will use the new MC I got and try to use the old cover. Eventually I want to switch over to all Disk and I will be needing a differant MC

As I was typing this the UPS driver showed up and dropped off my new brake lines, hose's, & clips from Fine Lines....Time to fire up the heat in the garage
