Adjustable rockers?

Hey guys,

I'm assembling my 446 and am having some pushrod issues. Because the heads and block were decked my pushrods are too long and are preloading the lifters too much. Im using stock pushrods just for measurement and there too long, I'm also using stock rocker arms.

I was wondering what the cost of a decent set of adjustable rockers and new rocker bars would run me? I figure it might be easier as I can just use them for adjustment.

If someone can recommend a decent set that won't break the bank that would be great.

Nothing crazy just a mild 446, k56 cam, 911 springs.

What about adjustable pushrods? Might be cheaper than a new rocker setup.

FLG

adjustable pushrods are for measurement purposes and not to be ran.

Had same problem with my 440. Went with Hughs adjustable pr's since I 'm using the magnum cam.     http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/products.php?browse=category&level0=QmlnIEJsb2NrICA0MTMtNDI2LTQ0MCAoUmFpc2VkIERlY2sp&level1=UHVzaHJvZHM=  If you do go this route I suggest that you pull the intake and visually adjust them. Second edit to post brain slow. If I remember right the push rods were rated for up to 600 lbs. of spring pressure.

I just saw the ones for checking not for running, sorry terrible.

Idk if id feel comfortable with adjustable pushrods...but if there safe to use it would save me me cash which is nice.

Opinions?

No worries here man, I've seen them sold as singles so I'm sure you're right about them commonly being used to find the length the actual pushrod needs to be. Like you, I'm still not sure how I would feel about the adjustables either.  :shruggy: If you choose to stay away from them though, the only options I could see being feasible would be custom length pushrods or like you said, an adjustable setup; whichever is the cheaper route would be best. For a second I thought maybe you could shim the shafts up but that would likely throw off the geometry.

Yep shimming the bars might be an option.

I just want to go with the best option that's the least expensive, without risking longevity or durability.

Not a big fan of shimming the rocker shafts

Frank, make sure you are on the base circle of the cam  :scope: Once confirmed that is the case get a checking pushrod and install it to zero lash. Remove the pushrod and measure....then add .020 to the length to allow for hyd lifter pre-load.

Sounds like a plan.

Who sells checking pushrods with ball ends? Mancini just sells cup and ball.

Actually seems comp cams might have it, gonna call them to confirm.

Hughes has a ball/ball adjustable pushrod for RB engines :

It just seems odd that you have .100 pre-load ?  :scratchchin:

Can you measure the pushrods you currently have and post the lengths ? Are these the stock pushrods or replacements ?
