Testing the instrument panel dimmer

My cluster is removed and I want to test my dimmer to see if it is good. Can I plug the dimmer into the wiring harness with the cluster out turn the lights on and see if the instrument panel lights light up?

yes... you just won't be able to turn on the dome since needs to be grounded for that.

Cluster needs to be grounded somehow too, to feed ground to bulbs
