power to dash for testing

I want to test the dash before install. Do I put power to the J terminal on the bulkhead (red amp wire) and ground the P terminal?? Checking dash lights,map light,cig lighter ,etc.

Forgot,it's for a 69.

On a 67 that wouldn't work, because the P-terminal is the main +12V feed. As for a ground connection you can probably just connect the dash metal frame to ground. The J-terminal is for the ignition and rev-counter.

Main 12v feed is what I'm looking for,correct?? If I ground the other terminal I mentioned ,would everything get power or just the amp gauge??
