Clock Set Shaft Replacement

Hi I just bought a tic toc tach and the clock set shaft is broke. I know rt engeneering makes tools to remove and press a new one in but they are $40 plus shipping. Has anybody on here changed the set shaft without the special tools.

If there's one thing I've learned during my restoration it's to just pony up for the right tools/parts for the job. 95% of the time it will save you lots of hassle and pay for itself in the long run.

I agree. I hate guys that are tight on buying tools. I am doing a cluster based off the thread that lilwendal had posted pretty labor intense but wow He said in his thread not to buy the tools as you don't need them and he will coach a person threw it. I was hoping somebody had tapped his mind on the subject and could pass the info on to me. I have built the gauge calibration tools and it has been going really good. If nobody on here knows i will buy the tools as I have to press another set shaft in the future.

If you think you might be doing it 2-3 times I'd probably just get the tool. I have a real hard time buying an expensive tool too if I'm only doing something with it once but if I'm sure I'll use it a few times it makes it a lot easier. Who knows? Maybe you could make a little side business fixing clocks and tachs.

That said, have you tried contacting lilwendal? Apparently he's been difficult to get in touch with lately but it was my understanding that he was going to be doing more gauge cluster side jobs.

No I have not. I looked at his user name and it said he has not been on here since October. I have allot of respect for these guys that do gauges. There is allot of time in restoring these things. I calibrated my gas gauge in 10 minutes, but this stupid temp gauge got to me for an hour. But she is perfect know   Probably just newbie time, it would be different if you did this over and over again. I guess my time is way cheaper than $1,000 they get for restoring them.
