Why does the speedo and other gauges turn brown but the clock stays nice?

I've always wondered about this. Are they made of different materials? I've seen hundreds of unrestored Charger interiors and in almost 100% of the the speedos and smaller gauges look like junk, all brown and barely legible, but the clock looks nearly perfect. I haven't seen enough of the tachs to know if this is true for them.

The clocks are aluminum faced other gages are steel faced. The brown is oxidation.

The gauges and speedo were made at a completely different manufacture than the clock.
