I took a look in the paint & body section but I didn't see anything refering to this.
In the front on a 73 SE. What should the color be?  Body color or black?
Specifically, headlamp buckets, panels behind those, radiator support facing out etc.?
On 66-67 it is NOT body color but a satin black as to keep the "mystique" of what is behind the grille (I guess).
How about from the factory on third gen's, what were they like?

I had answered your question on the other charger forum. It's a semi gloss black, not usually a neat job with some overspray. This photo is a good reference. You can see how it just fogs over at the top of the rad support.

Interesting.   :scratchchin:
I wanted to see some other ones as well.  It is difficult to imagine that they would do that at the factory.
Of all the pictures I've taken and seen of third gen's, I've never seen one that sloppy.  In fact most have body color there.
HUH! :popcrn:

If they have body color, they have been repainted. And, not correctly. I've seen some that don't reach the radiator support and some with it partially painted. I think I read they sprayed from below in a rectangular pattern and were inconsistent. Here is a photo of another one claiming to be original, and from the looks of it I would say it is. You don't want to see body color through the grill opening.

OK, thank You.  Now I know which way to go.  Tell him ... black.  Probably satin black, huh?

Here's what my car was like (untouched original.... albeit shabby but never the less ....ORIGINAL!)

As you can see not blacked out all the way up on latch support.

And then faithfully reproduced as original....

Now..... To throw a wrench in the spokes...... Here's another Charger I have seen, Hemi, Survivor, all original paint to the best of my knowledge. And this had the upper radiator support completely blacked out. So I don't think there is any "Hard and fast" rule to this, it probably differed from plant to plant as well. At any rate the side baffles are blacked out for sure.

Now here's what the factory had to say and depict.....

Hope this helps!
