Will 69 440 main caps work on a 76 440?

Main caps are block specific, if you dont have the main caps that came with the block you might as well go with aftermarket caps.

When a block is cast and machined those caps are mated to that block for life.

That's true, but depending on your build they fit and can be used. If you have the block line-bored they'll be fine. If you don't, you could use a bore gauge to see that they're aligned, then plastigage the crank from joint to joint. If the hole is round, you're fine.
I have to add the caveat that I only tried this once, and only two caps were acceptable.  Whether stock or aftermarket, you'll probably end up line-boring the block. :Twocents:

Thanks,
No build in mind yet. I picked up a bare '76 440 block for $50 awhile ago , No caps. I can get the caps and bolts for $35. My son is saving for a Charger, so no immediate plans for the engine.  They should work ok with a good line bore then.
