Yeah, one of my buddies just had to have one of these things...He got it, and was riding with his GF on the back one day by the local fire station...

He said he couldn't figure out what they were waving and cheering at him about, so he figured they must be takin' bout his 'ol lady right? So, he pulls in and simply asked the guys outside "Hey, WTF? are you clapping about?" One of the Firemen stood up, extended his hand and said "I want to thank you for being an organ donor, you and your Girl"..My buddy just shook his head and rode off...Wasn't two months later, he wiped out and broke a leg, just like I told him he'd do...

Just doing a standard head check you could completely miss a bike travelling 120+ and pull out in front of it.  One second a dot in the distance, the next...well, hope no one suffered long.

lane splitting: color me guilty. its legal here.

but, yes, should be done only when you have proper conditions...and only after a lot of experience. and even then, it's possible sudden death every time.tends to get you pumped during the morning commute.

Well I have to say I'm extreamly careful checking my mirrors for lane splitters as there's plenty of them here abouts and I've still nearly nailed a few,.. scared the crap out of me... and on the subject of the Video, did it look to anyone else like at the 3/4 point he scraped or dented  a few cars, one really bad?..  :shruggy:

Yea...I thought so too.  :yesnod:

on a serious note: I have been riding 1000 cc sport and superbikes since 1981 and still do so on an almost daily basis and theres a few 'rules' that if followed...reduce your risks dramatically.

1. never ,ever have a passenger on a sport or superbike. ever. period. single seat only.
2. keep it rational. upper level speeds only when conditions are perfect and you absolutely know the road surfaces. Keep the really nutty stuff for the track.
3.know the parameters of your bike and do your own maintenance. these bikes are designed to perform within very tightly engineered tolerances, and you should never make them do stuff they arent designed for whether it be wheelies, barkies, bizaare riding stances or non factory recommended modifications.

4. correct and properly fitting gear. ALWAYS.
5. always have a plan. trust no one on the road.
6.never ride in a pack. ever. go solo. the pack will fuck you up.
7. some dude wants to street race, let him. dont do it. want to race...hit the track.

I had one major wreck....years and years ago..on a track.

bull

Sounds like good advice.

Would you categorize this youtube guy as "nutty" based on what you saw? I wouldn't call it responsible by any stretch but then I don't ride as much as I once did (especially since I don't have a bike at the moment). I know guys who ride a lot and own several bikes yet refuse to enter traffic that thick at all, let alone jump into it treating it like a slalom course.

SFRT

he's stupid, as he WILL eat it at some point.

Swedens Ghostrider is a different story. that guy has some abnormal reaction skills. Suppossedly was a top level pro in his earlier days.

heavy traffic is something you get used to over time...I can almost always tell who is going to fuck up by the condition and make of their car, the times of day,the parts of town how they are driving etc. I always
give a green light an extra beat before I cross for the red light runners etc..after years of daily riding you tend to get an automatic sixth sense about things..and thats when you need to slow down and re-scan everything.

riding motorcycles is definately a thrill and it is a 'death trip' which is a major attraction...I cant fly fighter jets so...but, its not for every one.

the worst part of these sort of videos is that young dumb and full of cum sees it and thinks they can do it as well. guess again.

If you're really delusional enough to be unable to discern that the rider in the above pic was going way too fast I don't think a link is going change your mind. Does it look to you as if he was doing 45 mph or something and the car just turned in front of him? The car may be a $hetbox but I know you can't cut through one if you're only doing 45, or 60 or IMO even 80. Looks to me like he was doing well over 100 and had no time to react to a driver that probably knew he wasn't there three seconds earlier.

Attempted murder? What are you talking about? You're missing the point. The point is that if anything out of the ordinary happens to this idiot in the youtube link, such as someone opening a door, tossing a banana peel out, turning left without remembering to signal, turning quickly to avoid a road hazard, whatever, he is screwed. And most likely a bystander will get hurt or killed and his property destroyed. You seem to think if any of these type of things happen, which they often do, it's the car's fault for being unpredictable. Yea, when you're riding at three times the speed of the traffic around you and three times the logical speed you should be going then you deserve the brunt of any unpredictable action that occurs within the 2/10 of a second you have to react.
You tell em bull.
I've owned a bike since I was 14 and have been riding for over 35 years.  Sold my last bike back in 2008 to help fund the charger engine compartment and have no regrets.   My first car was a bike.  I drove it to work in the snow, if it snowed.  I had 5 Honda Gold wings.  Anyone driving through traffic between cars at any speed let alone that fast is an idiot and if someone should see them coming and take them down then I agree it's a sad time but, better than an innocent person crossing across and getting killed.  Title says's it all.  Stupid Moron!
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

lane splitting: color me guilty. its legal here.

Can you ride the shoulders also or does the law only allow splitting between two cars?
"Liberalism is a disease that attacks one's ability to understand logic. Extreme manifestations include the willingness to continue down a path of self destruction, based solely on a delusional belief in a failed ideology."

SFRT

I think shoulders is illegal.

And I'm just guessin here but I bet when you're lane splitting you're not supposed to be doing 90 mph.
