Any tricks on removing rust and varnish from inside a tank. Helping a buddy get his Cutlass goimg and we are pluging filters with rust. Now the Q jet is flooding.

Radiator shops use to boil them out.  I heard of putting lead shot in them and shaking the tank.

Rust and scale are tough but the rad shop solution is probably your best bet short of replacement.

A length of  heavy chain works also.

ive seen people use the metal beadblasting beads with good results. not a permanant fix as it will just start rusting again but will hold you over until you can get funds together for a new tank. maybe after its all good and clean get some of that tank liner and put in to seal it up.

Some good ideas, Thanks.

I talked to a radiator shop today and they don't clean them anymore. They suggested the chain method.

Anyone use the gas tank sealing paint ?

Yeah the tank lining epoxy works good. Eastwood & JC Whitney has it. You clean the tank as good as you can then pur the epoxy in. You don't have get all the rust out either.
