The splitting part never mattered to me.  I knew enough folks who told me it was non existent before ordering.  I bought mine simply for the 1 extra gear part.

If I understand how the GV / 727 combo works:

First gear normal.........2.45 : 1

First gear OD..............1.91: 1

Second gear normal.....1.45:1

Second gear OD..........1.14 : 1

Third gear normal ........1 :1

Third gear OD...............78:1

I would think driving normally  you would let the 727 go 1-2-3  in Drive then flip the switch to OD

At the dragstip you would let the 727 go 1-2-3 in Drive or manually shifted . Then use OD on the way home.

On a road course where 1st OD or 2nd OD might put you athe best rpm range it might help the gear split. The draw back is the drag created by a planetary OD. Anytime you ask the GV to Overdrive the planetary set will have a power loss vs straight thru 1:1 drive

At normal cruise power settings the fuel saved by lower rpm's out weighs the extra drag of the OD unit. Same as any OD automatic.  :Twocents:

Now you'll love going from 1 to 1 OD in town.  It's a nice quick shift that will peel rubber and it's such a close ratio it sounds great, then you hit 2 OD because you can't goto 2 and you're driving normally again.

What had me drooling was the thought of burning rubber hitting 1 OD the second direct and peeling again.  Another dream shot down!

If you are racing you gotta pick the split you want.  Between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3.  It's a good piece I'm sure and I made quite a career out of installing it last winter but it was a let down.

I don't remember exactly if it was $3000 or more like $3500.  I installed it myself.  Then you need to shorten your drive shaft.  They insist that you take it to a place that does high speed balancing.  Which I did.  Don't remember what that cost.  I had to take it to Ottawa which is a hour away.  Leave it and come back and get it another day.
