when I pulled the console it was laying there.

Does someone have a link to how it goes on right/tips to fit it?

Yeah, I was trying to figure exactly what it is for, I work the shifter fine with it just laying there where I found it.

Are you talking about the mousetrap spring? If so, it's an anti-rattle spring...whether or not it's "worthless" kind depends on if you have a rattle.
