Hey Guy's and Gal's
I Recently got married and started My Own company which left Me with no health insurance from My previous job and now My Wife is working for Our company and She has no health insurance.
I have been looking at some plans to cover us but I just don't understand.
HMO, PPO, and others.
I know there are many plans and Our current health depends on price. We are both in good health.
We have been quoted prices from $190.00 per month to $800.00 per month and never really told what the benefit's are.
I know this sounds dumb but for some reason I have a mental block when it comes to listening to insurance salesman.
Do any of You use a company that gives You decent benefits at a fair price.
Thanks

I think it depends on what state you are in. For example, in NH, there are only 2 companies that can sell health insurance thanks to the Dems throwing up all sorts of regulation so they can control it all.

We pay $1300/quarter for both of us.

We're healthy and it covers 100% all preventative care and check ups etc.

We have a deductible after that but we set that aside in an HSA to cover it should we need it and you get a tax break on the HSA contribution.

We use the Lumenos Blue Cross Blue Shield plan.

We are in Texas But all the company's We have talked to are out of State.
Do They have to go by Texas Rules??

nh_mopar_fan

If they are doing business in your state, they have to follow the laws of your state.

Being a small biz owner looking for ins is one big PITA. And if you have an employee with a pre-exsisting condition, hold onto your ankles. But then in Wi. wew are over regulated on just about everything! Currently I'm under the wifes plan...

When I was self-employed I used a company called Mega Life & Health, believe they were based out of Texas. It was basically what I call catastrophic care. When I dropped them I was 48, wife 47, had two kids on the plan. Had a 5k deductable per person, no co-pay, they paid 30% of prescriptions. Monthly payment was $750.00. Their rate was fairly low until we turned 40, then they jacked it every year.

We had them when we had our business as well.

I was less than impressed.

We're pretty happy with the Anthem coverage so far. We both just went through our full yearly physicals, blood work, colonoscopy, etc and it cost us zero. At $400 a monthy for both of us, I can live with that.

When I tried the private business thing I bounced this stuff off of my local private Insurance agent before the company was formed. (Im in NH btw) We were given a better rate on health insurance because the company had more than 2 employees. 3 to be exact but there were different price points depending upon the company size. IIRC their was also a system put into place that allowed small business to pool for better rates. Our rates turned out to be around $620 a month and this was like 3 yrs ago. Have 3 children and the wife and I. We are all non smokers and in good to great health (or were anyhow). The rates were dependent upon about a thousand pre-tests that proved that we didn't actually need insurance and that all they were going to do was bleed us dry. It worked. I was broke in no time. Hands down, it was my biggest expense for the entire household during that run. "Health insurance" is the single biggest crock of s**t going and it retards this country's ability to compete.  :RantExplode:

I'm going to ignore all the useless drivel spewed out about Obamacare.   :nana:

Every major health care provider has a website, you can find out about benefits/costs there and compare.

After the next election Obamacare might just be a footnote in history.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Wouldn't that be cool? Actually, if Nov. 2 isn't the beginning of the end I think the Supreme Court would take it out, or at least dismantle it to the point it would be unrecognizable.

One could only hope, that would be great.

To the original question, yes, you have to buy insurance offered in your state only.  And yes, some states may only give you one or two companies to choose from.  And yes, this is the dumbest fu#@ing thing ever.
