Is it just a matter of scuffing it good enough so the paint will stick?

You are best off to remove the chrome, but if you sand it really well and use a good durable sealer like epoxy it will be fine.

68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

The best I am able to do at this point is beat it up good with an industrial bead blaster and then coat it with SEM self etching primer. Should I bother?

Depends what media you blasting it with.

I'm not sure but it's more aggressive than glass. There's a place next door to this place that uses sand so I could go that route.

PocketThunder

what chrome part are you painting?

I had to have my bumpers sand blasted to get that chrome off.

elitecustombody

blasting and epoxy or etching prime would be the best thing you can do to help and paint chrome bumpers

You're probably going to laugh but it's a dipstick handle and the tube. You can get OE sets that need paint for $50 or new chrome replicas for $7. Just trying to save a buck (or 43) since I have to paint them anyway. My original tube has a hole worn into it from rubbing on a motor mount bolt.

Back N Black

I have had good luck with self-etching primer and a coat of paint.

ACUDANUT

You must be bored, or kidding....A dipstick tube ? :brickwall:

Braze the hole shut?

Or send it to me, I need a dipstick and tube and don't want chrome...;)

It's pretty bent up too. If you want it after I get a new one you're welcome to it because it will probably be going in the scrap bin.

Why? Both would have to be prepped and painted. Is this such a horrible question to ask? :shruggy:

GreenMachine

You have to grind some of the metal off to get them to fit in the hole. Of course I've had the same experience with a bare metal one I bought too though.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

It's hard to tell when people are serious or joking around here sometimes. :shruggy:

I gotta steal your post a sec. I am going to paint my bumpers and I am soda blasting the car. would soda blasting be good enough over the bumpers then sanding them before neutralizing and expoy?

By reading the above you might be able to tell I probably don't know for sure but I do know that soda is not very aggressive stuff. I would think you would need to use something a lot more abrasive than soda.

Yep. You can't see a person's expression, or hear their tone of voice on this internet to tell when someone is being sarcastic or joking.
