68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Ghoste

It is less than the cost of a new Crate Hemi.

Yes, but almost everything (dry sump, high compression, bathtub intake) is unsuitable for a street car, which is where the new owner in Germany wants to plant it.

For a race engine it was very reasonable.  It also will need to come apart for a look-see after many years sitting on the bench.   I wish I had the $$$ to snag it.   But I just bought a new tow vehicle.

OK Doug, how do you know that the new owner is in Germany?  I thought the bidder's names are anonymous?  Or did you know the seller?
I love the smell of nitro in the morning.

The Ernie Conn/Mc Coy Daytona has it original wing on it.  Ray still has his Daytona wing.  I asked the ebay sell (leftcoast) about it and he just said it came from a street Hemi Daytona.  I will have to check if there are any missing norCal Hemi's missing.   Also, last time I was at Jack McCoys he still had the purple #7 Daytona front end against the wall.  Bill Conn had the original #7 Daytona hood in storage.   After his passing I have no idea where the original race parts went.  I know the #7 Daytona has a Gene Gregory nose and modifyed 69 fenders on it.  I actually have pictures of the 69 fenders cut to look like a 70.

its a wonder Ray Elder did not want his spare motor back for his daytona race car !! did it ever get completed ??? remember reading  a about it years ago  :popcrn:
would not mind getting or finding an old grandnational or funnycar iron X black & build it up as a street motor for the charger !! what an awesome piece of history to have under the hood !!

I do not know the buyers name.   But it's been posted on a few different boards that the engine is going to Germany to be installed in a street '70 Road Runner.   The buyers engine builder asked some questions about it on Moparts.

The block is not from a street car.

I'm trying to make a deal on the motor with the guy, I have a motor I could trade him and that motor would be perfect for my car.  Will see what happens.  I did not have the cash to buy it outright so trying to work a trade.

When Jack McCoy passed his parts kind of spread like the wind and not sure where a lot of the stuff ended up.  The #7 Daytona and Elder's Daytona are both still around and intact so don't think the wing or motor was from either of them.  The owner of the motor said it came from Soares and was last raced in 78.

The block does not have a VIN number on it, I asked the owner about it when it got listed.

For people who know about these and their history, can anyone tell me why in the world it was necessary to secure and safety wire freeze plugs?

Because the danger of them popping out on the track is a real one.  I had one pop out on the dragstrip once and it made a hell of a mess.  Luckily I didn't drive through it and wreck my car but the strip was shut down for a LOOONG time while they cleaned the track and let me tell you sometime how popular that made me in the pits.  :o

I know Ford Boss 302s, and maybe even Boss 429s, had screw in freeze plugs, just to keep them from popping out.
