Anyone ever use one of these on a 2nd Gen? Does it fit ok? This is the one that is basically a flat bed with the 2 ramps. I dont have my Charger here but the Uhaul website says that the car needs to meet this criteria:

Must have a maximum outside-to-outside tire width of 79.25"
Must not exceed a body width (at the doors) of 75"

The car right now is completely stripped down to the shell, just had it blasted. Of course no steering wheel or any good way to turn it, but I hope we can still somewhat easily maneuver it up the ramps.

Thanks

I rented a Uhaul to move my Charger and Duster to our new house across town back in July. They told me I couldn't tow the Charger on it because it's too big and it wouldn't fit. They said I had to find another way to move it. They said I could use it for the Duster though. I don't know why they said that, the Charger fit fine.....? You'll have to tell them it's for a Valiant or something and you can tow the Charger without them knowing it but I don't think it would be covered if something happened though. However, we've used a Uhaul 3 times for my Charger and I'm not sure if they said it was too big before or not but this time they said it was too big.

I rented a Uhaul and they didnt say anything about my Charger.  I used one to go and pick it up when I first bought it.  I got it in Fayetteville, TN and drove it almost 8 hours back to Indiana.  I had no problems with it, and the Charger fit fine.  We used the supplied straps and it stayed put, even in the hill of Tennessee.  I dont think it would be a problem, and it was a good quick fix for a problem I had at the time.  Now I have made friends with atleast two people that have 18ft car haulers, so I wouldnt pay for one now, but if I didnt I would definately use them again.

I used a u-haul trailer to bring back a 70 charger from Louisiana to Bradenton Florida with no problems at all. I told the people at u-haul the year, make and model and they told me it would be fine.

Yes your 73 will not only fit but pull nicely.  My buddy LKcuda traded a mustang cobra for a 72 Road runner.  We rented a Uhaul trailor and towed the mustang about 12 hours from StLouis to West VA.  picked up the RR and pulled it back.  I also towed a 74 Charger from Jeff City MO. to Granite City, about 3 hours.  I told the rental guy what I was towing when I used it to picked up the Charger.

I have used them to haul Chargers several times. Go over the one they give you with a fine toothed comb before driving away with it. They often have electrical issues improperly repaired.

The uhaul I used to get my charger to its new home they picked a correct size one for it. Apparently they have a few different sizes so luckly they had the one I needed. Another issue with uhaul is what your towing it with they get weird about it. I have an F350 so I dont have any issues. However a friend of mine wasnt allowed a trailer because his truck was a chevy 1500....sad since hes was trying to tow an astro van .

Yes, it will fit fine. It will pull fine too being stripped. U-Haul can get picky so when they ask tell them it's a small block and that you're towing with something big (NOT an Explorer either).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I got the same story. Their reservation computers now say a 2nd gen Charger won't fit. It will fit but only with about an inch and a half on each side. U-Hauls newer auto hauler trailers are not as wide as their older models. I measured two side by side....the old ones are about 82" wide while the newer ones are about 79" wide.

I towed a 67 newport 4 door with one, we were using a friends chevy 1500 to pull it. When they asked what we were going to tow, I told them, they looked it up and said no, that we would need a bigger truck or a lighter car. So I told them it didnt have an engine or trans and was missing some of the interior. (which it wasnt). They let us take it and it did fine from champaign illinois to just north of Detroit. I think it would work just fine if it could handle the newport.

U-haul denied me a rental when I told them it was a Charger. I went back the next time and said it was a VW Bug and there was no problem. I've used those trailers to haul 3 Chargers and they worked great. I know the car doors wont open (I think) when its on the trailer.

Me too, that's how I got mine home!  All though, I agree; they are wierd about what your pulling and pulling with...

bull

I used one to haul my 68. Worked just fine.

I've used them many times... They are good trailers.. NOW, I will share an experience though.. Once, I was asked what I was towing, a '69 Charger 500... Well, they said since it was a full size car and I was towing it with a 1500 Dodge Ram, I couldn't rent it.. Somewhere buried deep are towing configurations/limits U-Haul has. This particular person actually read it. So, I went to another place and mentioned I was going to possibly tow a '88 Suzuki Samurai. No problem.......   :2thumbs:

I would actually like to buy one. You can purchase good used units when they are available local. I like the ease of the front straps and the fold down driver's-side fender. I would weld on my weight distribution kit anchor points to the front and move on down the road...

hauled a 69 RR on one about 6 years ago.  no problems and no shortage of thumbs up either.
