Hey gang...
asking for opinions.... Are the reproduction Charger gas caps still available and if so, how is the quality on these things? I've never had to buy one before, but I'll need to soon....  I know Laysons and the other big names have them, at least on their catalogs...... Any other vendors I should consider?

I have no first-hand experience but what I've heard is that the reproduction gas caps looks great but are of poor quality and fall apart rather quickly. In other words they work fine if you don't use them much. ;D Also, I heard they look different from underneath but of course that's not really an issue to the guy at the service station. I got lucky and found a near-mint original gas cap on Ebay about a year ago for about the same money the repops are going for.

Jack's Auto Parts has them as well as Year One. This is the one shown on Jack's website for a '68 http://jacksautoparts.com/catalog/fuel.html:

THE COLONEL

I bought one for The Colonel, from Year One,  this past summer, and I am very pleased with it.  Now, if they fall apart I guess I have to wait a little longer and see what happens.  That was the first I have heard of that.

I saw that Frank Mitchell had an NOS one on e-bay this past summer, sold for $850.00 USD with the buy it now feature.  Someone also swiped one off of his table at Carlisle.  He used that as an excuse for his ever skyrocketing prices.

I bought mine at Year One a few weeks back - $90.00 USD with ring!  ?Is it good?  ?Looks better than the two I have!  ?Is it totally accurate?  ?Didn't get the micrometer out!  ?Does it fit?  ?Won't know for a few more weeks!

Good luck!

THE COLONEL

Mine fit perfect.  You shouln't have to do anything to it.

My experience is that they look real good, but the ones I got from YO 5 or 6 years ago had a problem
with the latch not coming all the way over and had a noticeable gap. Also they don't pop up like the
originals do. I just got one from Dave at Laysons, and he says they look at every cap that comes in and
send back about half of them because of flaws. The one I just got was better than the first YO caps,
I was glad I looked at the cap and ring in person, I looked at 6 rings before I found one that was good,
they seem to have more problems.

No "pop" because there's no spring inside?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
