let's face it, i am not a bodyman. i am not a mechanic. i am not an upholsterer. but i am the proud owner of a 66 charger in awesome shape. but! the perfect body hid a couple tiny blemish and then there was the driver door. the door seemed sorta straight but the bottom posterior of it stuck out about 1/4-1/2inch past the body.can we say obvious? in the past i spent hours getting it almost right but not being able to convince the door to close. i adjusted the striker blah blah.
yesterday i got all crazy between the hinges and the striker but ended up right back where i started. with a little tweaking to align the front of the door again, the rear of it still stuck out too far...my perfectionist friend was all baffled by it and i know it drove him nuts. so, after having nothing to lose, now, (i have no body tools) i grabbed a wooden 2x2 and a hammer. i had lost my mallet so the hammer would have to do. i lined up the wood to the door and rear quarter and gave it a whack, then about 5 more and the door was perfect.. when my friend came over he was amazed and that was all it took. a hammer and 2x2. i got lucky, but at some point brute force wins over logical planning.

I keep a 4x4 block of hard wood and a small 3 lb sleage hammer around just for such ocations. Make shure you go back and put a wrench or socket on the bolts of the hinges. The wak may have loosend the some.
