intake manifold for the 440 has anyone hoged out the round holes under the carb and made one big hole ?   would i get more hp ?  would i starve a piston ?   we got a number matching 69 rt  and trying to keep it looking orginal .   Ken     ???

can be done , I doubt you will see significant gains , rounding the top of the port up into the plenum will help & lowering the divder in a dual plane intake can help high rpm power as well

The old edelbrock ch4b is a very nice upgrade over the stock iron intake and looks very "stock" It has a divided plenum like all dual planes but it is milled in the center which helps bigtime with the upper end power while still maintaining really good torque. The Performer rpm also shares the same milled/divided plenum design so what worked well back then still works very well 25yrs   later. The CH4B can be had used on e-bay and at swap meets etc...and painted up looks just like an original. The stock throttle and kickdown linkage work fine with it as well and hood clearance with a factory aircleaner is not an issue. If the engine combo is being stepped up this manifold is a move in the right direction, inmo.

Have no idea why you asked me, opps your name is Ken as well. I was going to say I have nothing stock but never mind. ;)

I like the CH4B as well. If you grind off the word Edelbrock it would pass as stock unless if the car is being judge by someone that really knows Mopar's. Runners are about a 1/4 taller and that is about it.

Here is a bad PIC of one on my old 69 440. I also found a PIC of a stock 72 intake on the current 440 POS.

thanks guys were not going to touch the origional just wanted to see if any substancial gains were possible. We will look for the Ch4B at future swap meets. Is this an aluminum intake or cast iron?

Thanks again Ken

Ken, the CH4B is an aluminum manifold.

Bigger gains to be had from port matching, no?

Depends on how much coreshift is there....

It'd be fair to say though, that it's generally preferable to plenum mods?

Chryco Psycho

both the port match & plemun can be restictive , I fix both

Ghoste

What do you typically do to the plenum?

Chryco Psycho

curve the plemum into the top of the ports & shape the port dividers

Ghoste

I should have also asked you if this is work you find needed on all, most, some, aluminum aftermarket or factory iron ones?

Chryco Psycho

most Alum & factory intake will benefit although the deep side of a dual plane intake is virtually impossible to round the roof , you just cannot get in there
