trav,
   they were usually found on the rallye package, but some SE's had them also.  The 340 could have been ordered with about any package though as far as I know.  73 was the last year for the 340.

If I recall correctly, '73 was the only year you could get a 340 Charger. Wasn't available before that, and in '74, they became 360s. I remember a local guy in my high school days that had a brand new Rallye 340 4-speed car, was a sharp ride.

there were 340 Rallye Chargers in 1972, not sure about 71 R/T 340's though.  Need twilt or nacho to chime in.

*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

How could you get a 340 in a Super Bee? I thought the Bee's only had 383's and up ???

Just to fortify my newfound lack of confidence in my aging/ailing memory, has anyone ever SEEN, or better yet, actually OWNED a '71 340 Super Bee or a '72 340 Charger? I've been going to shows for longer than I care to admit, and don't recall ever seeing either one. Or maybe it's just my myopic big-block biased brain..... ???

chiming in........ i do currently own a 72 340 charger rallye. its also a N96 car.

despite what is printed in the white book,  I also would be a hard sell in believing that there were no 72 340 SE`s  it would be illogical to think that you could get one with a 318, 400 2bbl, 400 4bbl, and 440 4bbl  but not a 340.

I've seen several 340 Bees.  If fact, there are two in my club: one is a Hemi clone and the other is a 440 6 Pack clone (Both are Hemi Orange).  Here's a pic of a Black one...

He lists the 72 Charger SEs separately, as their VIN begins with WP29....

WP29G2 = 72 Charger SE with 318-2v

WP29M2 = 72 Charger SE with 400-2v

WP29P2 = 72 Charger SE with 400-4v

WP29U2 = 72 Charger SE with 440-4v

No listings for a 340-4v 72 Charger SE, which would be WP29H2.

Maybe the book needs revised   ??? , the one I am looking at is the Fourth Edition.

That, or the car in Ottawa, KS is a ultra rare one of one (or none).  Hmmmm,  wheres my car trailer...........LOL  :)

Here's a 340 Magnum '71 Super Bee owned by a guy in Prince George or around that area. It was my favorite car at this year's Quesnel show and shine!

You can just make out the 340 Magnum on the hood, sorry for the bad pic. It was a black bucket seat, auto, numbers superbee, a very beautiful car!

Coronet owner here, details could be fuzzy.   Back East in the late 80's I lusted after and tried to buy what I believe was a 73 Charger.   340, light green with column shift, buckets, no console, air, machine gun tip on one side.   It was setting in a driveway, family member car.   One owner with a white vinyl top.   I still browse for a similar car and was curious about 73 340 cars too.   Great site...

Wow - got spell check too!!!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

The '73 340 4 speed ChargerFan mentioned is my dad's old car. I wish we had it back but, at the time it was sold to buy another Mopar so all was not in vain.
