Late 60's. Bruce Lee was Kato - Can't remember who played the Green Hornet. I preferred Batman at the time.  :icon_smile_big:

Here we go....

Inspired by the success of the Batman series, ABC brought The Green Hornet to television in 1966-67, an adaptation which introduced martial arts master Bruce Lee to American audiences as Kato and starred Van Williams as the Green Hornet. Unlike Batman, the TV version of The Green Hornet was played straight, but in spite of the considerable interest in Lee, it was cancelled after only one season. However, the rise of Lee as a major movie star ensured continued interest in the property to the point where proposed Green Hornet productions typically have the casting of some major martial arts film star as Kato as the first order of business. Lee's popularity in Hong Kong, where he was raised, was such that the show was marketed there as The Kato Show.

I guess they saw my thread last Yr. eh?..  ::)

More info Re: The Original...

:scratchchin: Seth Rogan?..  :ahum: much as I've enjoyed his performances seems like quite a reach from the original Characters' seriousness to his Joviality...  :-\

'n no word on who plays Kato..  :shruggy:

Ghoste

I'm having a hard time picturing him the role too but who knows, maybe he'll be great?

Mike DC

Seth Rogen would be "great" for the Green Hornet in about the same way that Owen Wilson & Ben Stiller were great for Starksy and Hutch.

It makes sense, you just have to think like a modern movie producer.  Who needs to respect the source material when you can get the 14yo boys by casting the MTV crowd's star of the week?  That kind of star will have recognition and cred with teenagers that is out of proportion with his relatively small salary demands so the producers love it.

This industry would cast Jack Black to play Yoda if they thought it would rake in $30 mil the first weekend.

--------------------------

As for the car, I'm amazed they kept the same one.  Even if you'd told me they were going with a retro car, I still would not have expected it to actually be the same Imperial.

But it also fits the idea that they're making a joke out of the show and not seriously trying to do it justice.

    :smilielol:

That made me laugh out loud...  :smilielol:
now watch next yr...

my understanding reading the links provided was that it's was Seths' property and he's the producer, director & star of the project... now that's gotta save a few bucks... I doudt I'm gonna see a dime though this entire re-do was my idea originally...
says he lost alot of weight to star in it too,..  :shruggy:

Brock Samson

if they screw up the casting of Kato I'm gonna stab somebody...  :RantExplode:

(I used to religiously watch the show when I was a kid) we all pretended to be Kato in the school yard it was our first exposure to martial arts, Anyone remember the karate chop where one swift chop to the neck region would render a bad guy unconsious?..

Mike DC

Yeah, that doesn't look very intentional.  Ouch.

Magnumcharger

Wow!! The video of the wreck was bad enough, but the pictures are just painful.

It sure looked beautiful "before" !!!

:brickwall: Damn! do they allways have to wreak the MOPAR!!!  :flame:

Mike DC

Whoa!  They definitely didn't plan that one.  If they're gonna stage a crash it won't be done like that.

Looks like the driver just phucked up.

And whether they've got backup cars or not, I doubt they had planned for the possibility of stuffing one during that particular shot.

This is what happens when you let some ricer driver try to handle a real car, you can see he was driving it like it was front wheel drive.  :eek2:

here's the official promo...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAaAKBvFxpM

something different about the wheels which on the clip come out all Ben Hur like...  :shruggy:
I don't think making it a semi-comedy was very astute move though... a black film noir more like bullett, pulp fiction  or something more grim would've been far more to my liking..

Watch about 1:34-36 in the Youtube trailer - looks like the car gets broken in half.

ITSA426

There was a Green Hornet car at Mopars in the Park a couple weeks ago.  Similar, vinyl top, limo look, same wheels as the pic Brock posted.  Lots of rockets and a trunk mounted surveillance camera of some sort.  I never watched the series.  I think they said it was a second car.  Some big control panel with a row of lights and flip switches.  Even had a pair of whisk brooms behind the rear wheels to cover the cars' tracks on dirt/gravel roads to keep from being followed.  Interesting.
