i have a moper performance 590 lift cam in my car and it must of not been hardend enough becouse three of the lobes were worn down, three lifters popped out and the ends of them became concabe and i bent a push rod.  i was wondering what brand cams you used and what lasts.  thanx  brian

What were you using for oil?

This issue has been beaten severely, but isn't dead because the problem is still coming to light and getting worse. Search the forums, you'll find as many threads about cams and oil as about anything else.

This one is a sticky-

Been there, done that. More than once, too.
What was your break-in procedure? I'm guessing you have double springs and didn't remove the inners for break-in, and didn't keep the RPMs up high enough to keep oil on the cam lobes. Plenty of pre-lube and oil with additives is a must also.

I bit the bullet and bought a set of ceramic composite lifters so I don't have to sweat anymore break-ins.

i will take all of that into consideration but im still gonna have to replace my cam and lifters are there any brands that you think i should go with?

Straight Castrol GTX without an EP additive is a recipe for disaster. Not surprising to hear the cam wiped out.  :P

MP cams = SUCK...

I always go with Engle (before they got bought out) and i NEVER had a cam go flat...    I always used Delo 400 with no additive.

This sound like more than a bad cam.  Be sure that you check EVERYTHING in the valve train when it goes back together.  You are pulling the motor down and cleaning and inspecting everything and replacing as needed - right?

Your question about a cam - I presume you're asking about one that won't fail?, verses one that will make the best power.  I don't know if any cam grinder/supplier has not had cam failures.

yea i ment one that wasnt made in china!   i really dont wanna have tear down the entire motor.  is there anyway around that?

RallyeMike

How much more stuff do you want to burn up? Think about how much metal was splashed around in your block. I had ONE lobe go on a Comp cam and the metal was found everywhere on tear down.

To my surprise, my "sucky" inexpensive MP 509 replacement is just fine.
