This is 3rd of my third gens I have worked on. I am trying to decide on a color that would give me best chance of selling it if I need to. Car is code JY9 Dark Gold Poly. Its currently wearing Maaco Yellow.  I'm tending toward black. Can anyone tell me what the paint code options are for a 3rd gen black since its not original. Also any thoughts on colors that would be better sellers?

There's a term called "resale red" but I've never heard of "buy it black".  I always prefer original colors, but it's your car you get to choose the color when you're buying the paint.

For a flip job I'd look at hi impact colors.    Black only sells if it's got good bodywork behind it and I hear all the comments about keeping it clean all the time  ::)

With third gen Chargers i think high impact color work better as well.  Maybe look at Plum Crazy purple also.   :Twocents:

I'm not a 3rd gen guy but when I see a nice black one I stop and take notice. But do you want to do all the work it's going to take to paint it black? Any dark color will be a pain but black is the mother of them all.

I allready painted my 71 plum crazy. Did it in my driveway. Quite amateur but it came out allright for a 1st time. I'm thinking of just doing the body work on this one then sending it off to have it sprayed.

it needs to be perfect to be black, i will never own another black vehicle maybe citron yella

I'd pass as I wouldn't want a black Charger.
Well, an original black Charger is different. Like the others said, the body work has to be perfect.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Ummm...seems like Votes for Black are  :shruggy: none.
Anyone point me to pics of Turquoise Poly (q5) or Dark Blue Poly (b9)?

I am with the rest of the guys NO Black unless your body work is perfect.  :2thumbs:

Back N Black

My car is black and that is the first thing people comment on is how shiny and straight the car looks. I don't get the " it has to be perfect to paint it black". For me it has to be perfect no matter what color.  :2thumbs:

Yep I agree! It better be straight regardless of what color you are going to paint it!

Red is often refered to as "Resale Red" for good reason.

It depends on how much you'd like to get for your car.

If you paint it black, it had better be perfect, or every flaw is immediately apparent. If it's anything less than perfect, hat will detract mightily from your asking price.

High impact colors are cool, but I always wince and groan whenever I see a 1969-72 color code on a 1966-68 or 1973-up car. First thing I think is "what color was it originally?"
Second thing I think: "What is the owner trying to prove?"

And to me, that takes away from the merits of the car. If your car is a 73-74 style Charger, I suggest exploring the color chart from that era, and picking something suitable.

Of course, if your interior is tan, or gold, or green, or blue...I guess your choices are limited!
