i went to our local old car parade tonight and this certain family (i wont use names) owns about 3/4 of our town and they had 15 cars entered.. now i dont mind that but the old man, his wife, daughter, and son in law all had one car and then all the grandkids were each driving a different one. One of my brothers friends, a 14 year old girl, was driving a Hemi Superbird! Her brother Jared had a '87 Grand National Buick and was doing burnouts with it and just trashing it... i cannot beleive the stupidity but its none of my business...  :brickwall: rant over

That's over the hill in some states.

Get used to it. You will see such things with more regularity in life.

I'm not sure if they can anymore, but in Texas they could get what they called a hardship license when they turned either 14 or 15, I can't remember for sure. Only place they could drive was to school and work and back home. I think they even had a curfew.

I congratulate the people who actually earned the money.
I can't stand the kids who inherit the wealth.
I worked and sacrificed my life off to get what I own.

To get my Charger, I had to cut a lot of costs & spending and I didnt hang out with friends as much (if any at all)
To keep my mind off of my savings, I just worked full time and college kept my mind very busy anyways.
After 6 years of looking I finally bought what I earned!

So what's the problem? I would personally rather see a whole pile of cars at a show than to know they exist but are in storage. I can't drive all my cars at once so I tend to have family drive mine to local shows (and I'm not rich either). Maybe it's a way they can get everyone involved and have a little fun.

no 14 year olds cant even drive with their parents in Michigan... and i much rather see them out instead of in sheds but it just bothers me... that family owns most of the land in our town (and all the dealerships... everyone buys out of town so we dont have to put up with their lousy service) but anyway since she was who she was the cops didnt care and let her drive all on her own...  :shruggy:

id like to point out that none of these cars are restored... they've owned all the dealerships forever so whenever something came out that he knew would be worth something he ordered one for a "showroom model" and then kept it for himself... an original Hemi Superbird w/ 37,000 on it... automatic and orange... black vynil top... and his 14 year old granddaughter is driving... thats the main thing that gets me!

Again, so what? I sense a lot of jealousy and resentment. This is why America is going down the tubes. What you should be saying is: I could be successful like that some day if I put my mind to it.

That will get you a lot farther than whining about how other people have it so good. If you do nothing to change your own situation you'll be saying the same thing when you're old and retired. Worry about your own life and not what other people think.

These 2 lines say it all for me. If something is given to you you will not take care of or appreciate it. Working for something........scrimping, saving, sweating and sacrificing to acquire whatever it may be makes having "it" an order of magnitude more satisfying than having "it" handed to you.
Walk the walk and be proud that you did it.

I get what your saying and I understand what Troy is saying, but I too am of the opinion that rich people got it the old fashioned way, they inherited it...Troy says "I could be that rich one day too"..I've been trying to get my own auto repair shop on the main drag for about 15 Years now and I've learned only one thing...Self made men in this world are a thing of the past...Every single one of the shop owners here either have rich parents, grand parents, Inlaws, etc. backing them in their venture...Meanwhile, It's bad to say this, but if everybody in my family on BOTH sides died at one time, I couldn't make one months house payment....Everything I have, I have gotten all by myself..No inheritance on my side of the fence, so I don't hang around, condone, well wish, etc. anyone that has recieved their wealth that way as we will Never have anything in common...

On the other side of the fence, I admit to having a few buddies that after hitting the lottery, they too are VERY well off..You would never believe it talking to them, hanging around them, the way they teach their kids, etc...They don't allow their kids to be "Spoiled" even though they very well could...There's a Huge difference between the "Born rich" and the "became rich"...Some have had to "Pay their dues" and some just click the "Buy it now" button and are where it took you 5 years to be saving and scrimping...Do these people deserve to win that first place trophy over all you hard work? I say, no...but the world and the public doesn't see it that way unfortunately...I see it more and more at the local shows/cruise nights here...

Ever heard the old saying "A rich guy can hit the lottery and still be rich when he's dead".."A poor, working stiff hits the lottery and he's broke in a year"....This is why I believe this is so true...That Working class guy has had to kiss the asses of the "Born rich" all his life, so when he finally "Becomes rich" he decides that his ass needs All that much more kissing and he ends up spending money on dumb sh*t just to get that ass kissing...It's the "look at me" syndrome..

When your brought up to "Expect" a certain lifestyle, those are the folks that allow a 14 Y/O to drive a Hemi this, or a Viper that...

It's the same old thing that's has been going on the local Drag racing world lately...I pull up in a home built, backyard, hillbilly, car that is a TRUE street car, only to be set against some "Rich guy" with a $100K car simply because my junk is too fast for the "Street Class"...You can't outrun money, and you can't compete at a car show, parade, in life, at work, with money..It always wins...Some call it "Envy", some call it "jealousy", some call it whatever, some just accept the rich and hope like hell they will get there one fine day...For me, I still haven't found any investors that want to drop around $300K in my new shop yet....
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

The definition of big money is extremely relative.  Most people define wealthy as "someone who makes several times as much as I do."  But one person's weath is another person's mediocrity or downright poverty.

IMHO the prevailing view of "the rich" among the middle class is way oversimplified.  Money does not buy social class.  And sometimes social class can even be held without the money.  The upper levels of society have all kinds of divisions amongst themselves.

I can agree with that right there.

Our company CEO started out as a runner in anewspaper, then worked the mailroom. Now he is CEO to one of the biggers News companies in the country.

He still drives a VW Beetle, wears jeans to work sometimes and lives in a ordinary family home.
There are people here that think they are so much better tham I am because they have money, but he is the one I respect most and not or his title.
