Hi guys!

I am the happy owner of a -74 Dodge Charger with a slightly modified 360 engine. The car has a 8.25 rear axle with 2.71:1 ratio. I now plan to change the ratio to 3.55:1. I think the car is a little dull on low rpms.. How much change will I feel if going from 2.71 to 3.55? As the axle has no positrac I plan to put in one when changing the ratio. What brand of a positrac should I choose for this 8.25 axle? Any suggestions?

You will notice the differrence. About 30% more torque at the rear wheels. If you want to stick with a SUREGRIP differential the clutch style is considered better.

Hey Harley

I'd suggest swapping out the entire rearend for an 8 3/4. Their easy to find, stronger, you can get one with the proper gears already installed (if you look enough) and it will be less expensive that what you'd pay to work on that 8 1/4. In addition, you'll have the ability to do 2 hr. gear changes by yourself with the front loading "punkin" of the 8 3/4  :2thumbs:
