Is there anyway of telling what spline my axles are without pulling one? It's a 489. These numbers are on the side. Thanks for any help.

I believe All stock 8.75 axles are splined the same (30).

Pinion shafts on the other hand can be 10 or 29 spline.

If the pinion nut takes a 1 1/8 socket, it is a 10 spline. If the pinion nut takes a 1 1/4 or 1 5/16 socket, it is a 29 spline.

Thought they were all 30s.  Just wanted to make sure before ordering new axles.
Thanks for the info.

huh?

If you are talking PINION splines, they are 29, not 30.

We're talking about axle splines though.

of course with the exception of the 10 spline pinions that also came in a 489 case.  ;D
