Holley Jetting suggestions for 470CI Stroker?

I'm new to the Holley world (I'm more comfortable with edelbrocks and q-jets), and many friends have suggested my 470ci stroker will perform better with a Holley. I have an 850CFM Edelbrock on there now, which it was dyno'd against (470hp, 540tq) and the driveability is good but there is no real top-end. My 383 Chevy stroker in my vette pulls harder at the top with a well-tuned quadrajet when the big secondaries open.

So... a buddy loaned me a Holley 4777 (700 cfm mechanical secondaries carb) to try out. I got it installed, and it idles pretty nice. It's got a bad stumble when the secondaries kick in (this is all in the garage, it hasn't been on the street yet) and I believe it's running lean as the idle screws are ~ 3 turns out (i think stock is 1.5 turns), and of course the HUGE stumble when I hit the secondaries.

So I think I need to richen up. I don't know what's in there now, and I've ordered a holley jet kit from Summit so I can get started.

Anyone running a Holley mechanical secondaries with an automatic have any tips on a jetting to start with? Any good tips on how to size secondaries?

A 700 cfm carb is going to be small on a 470, especially if you are running a dual plane intake manifold. The flat spot is a lean bog and can be tuned with a larger discharge nozzle (squirter)

See how it drives under load and report back.

- what cam are you using
- what timing : base and total

What CFM would you recommend? The online calculators I used said 700 should be fine since I don't spin the motor past 5500. I'm borrowing the 700 just to play around, and I may buy another one just for this motor. Would an 850 work?

I don't have the cam specs - it's pretty mild. I like to have my motors built for good street manners so no lumpy cams - I'm pulling 15+ hg at 900 rpm. I'll try and find the specs.

Timing is 36 total, 17 base w/ Vac Advance on manifold (so my true base is like 33, as I have a 16deg vac can)

How can I tell what "squirter" I have? And what it should be (if you have general guidance)
