Driprailmolding, any tricks?

Bought a pair of driprailmoldings, said to be for both variants, with or without vinyltop. I cut the vinyl at the half of the driprail
but it seems to be a long way to the edge once I start to press on the molding to mount it. Anybody has any good tricks how
to get them on without making them flat with a hammer? :eek2: Thought of warming up the vinyl where the seam is on the
A-pillar because there it will really be a PITA. :scratchchin:

clip it over the top edge first then either slap it over the bottom lip with a palm of your hand or  place a block of wood  on the moulding & tap the wood with a mallet , wood size up to you , but enough to disapate the mallet blow , make sure its clipped over the top though  :yesnod:

Per,

I had the same dilemma putting the drip rail on my former 69 Chevelle. I cut a 8" piece of garden hose then split it in half. I used this as a cushion to tap the rail in place. Definitely hook the top of the rail over first and work it slowly. With your track record of expertise you'll make short work of this. I'll be using the same technique when my Charger comes home from paint. Good luck and let us know how it works out. good luck.

I have found 2 types of pillar trim, one set would not fit over the seam so I think there are for non vinyl cars and the other set I got  are wider just where the seam is.
So I guess there is vinyl and non vinyl pillar trims

Hi Tom,
Do you hit or only push on the hose?

Per,

I tried to roll the drip molding into place by hand making sure I firmly clipped the top edge of the molding over the vinyl material and rail. I began at the bottom of the rail  back by the quarter window. Some areas along the rail I was able to complete the "roll" by force of hand. The rest of it I used a small soft rubber headed mallet and tapped on the piece of hose over the trim working a short section at a time. When I slit the section of garden hose in half I slit it again into quarters. Using a quarter section of hose allowed me to still see the molding as I worked it into place. Let us know what you end up using and how it worked for you. Good luck

Just to make sure I don't do anything very stupid here, the driprailmolding is going OVER the quarterbeltcornerpiece?

Per,

Please refresh my memory, what is the "quarterbeltcornerpiece" and do you have a picture? Thank you.

Tom,
It's the halfmoon pice that sits in the lower rear corner of your quarterwindow, the chromepiece that binds the molding along the quarterwindow and the driprailmolding together.

Used a piece of wood I use to mix paint with and a plastic hammer, works if you have the right moldings. I think I have the one for a non vinyl car because it's almost impossible to not dent them because they are so tight. Will do for this season though.
