Steering pin removal...

My automatic, column shift Super Bee finally had its ignition switch go out.  The steering wheel, turn signal assembly, etc have all been removed, and I am stuck on the last plate held in place by a freaking pin!  Of course, the manual shows a special tool to remove the pin.  The manual states also do NOT hit it with a hammer.  I do NOT want to take the whole column out of the car and put it in a vice as some have suggested..

Any ideas?  I was thinking of using a small bit of some sort and trying to use it and a pair of big channel lock pliers to force the pin out.  What a STUPID arrangement just to get at the ignition switch.

Any quick and dirty methods?

You could release the coupler and pull the shaft up far enough to get the switch un screwed and out, I did (but mine was floor shift auto) (only to have my new switch loose "start" position 2 months later!  :flame: )

That might be a good idea.  The other thing I thought was take a 2x4, turn the shaft so the pin is verticle, jam the board between the shaft and the floor of the car, and tap it out that way.  But removing the coupler as you suggested might be safer, I will take a look at that!

Thanks...
