Check out this site to see a guy who does a great job building half scale... http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/Heim.htm

He even has a few videos of the trucks in action. Here's one http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6253734632034016208#

Here's a couple from his site... And yes, the truck is actually drivable. The equipent is remote controlled as their too small for someone to get into. Everything is exactly half the size of the real thing.

I don't really understand the urge to go to 1/2 scale; it's so huge.  There are many builders out there doing stuff 1/4 scale.  Even at 1/3rd everything is still much easier to deal with than 1/2.

1/2 scale would make one hell of a Dodge Charger go-kart though.

I'm thinking 1/2 scale Starship Enterprise....  :scratchchin:

In the old (1977-1983) Star Wars movies, the soundstage Millenium Falcon was only 2/3rds scale.  The interior scenes were shot on a separate mockup of the inside that was larger than the exterior shell.

(Yes, technically this thing was much TOO SMALL!)
