im rebuilding one of my 500" motors.it was about 13 years old.its pretty much done.i will be dynoing next week.should be about 700-725 hp.i made some changes from the old build.before i had small port sr heads, now im using cnc 295 sr,s.i know they work really well,as i have them on two other motors.i left the cam the same and the compression ratio.im trying some t&d 1.7 rockers.my 580 build really responded to the higher ratio.i had the heads flowed.i used the same bench that i flowed my 572-13,s on.the sr,s flowed:

.100 I   77.6  E  61.6
.200     150.7    116.8
.300     213.5    154.2
.400     274.5    185
.500     320       211.3
.600     350       230.5
.700     367       244.8
.800     365       254.3

theese flow within 20 cfm of my bigger heads, even thou they have 70cc less port volume  :scratchchin:. must be theese have a higher velocity port or something.the rest of the motor specs:
500"
295 sr heads
13-1 cr
solid roller 272/276@.050   .700"
mopar 337 intake or indy 440-d dualplane
1.7 rockers
aluminum bcr main caps  (had bad cap walk with the old motor with stock caps)

i will dyno the 337,440-d and an indy 440-3.i will post the results.im hoping the 337 does well because it fits under the stock hood.it did ok on my 580.i still have it on there now.here are some pics.

Looks great Brian....the manifold comparison is excellent data. We'll be doing the same thing on my 572 in a few weeks. I'll be interested to see how the MP 337 compares to the ICH 440-3 on your 500in combo.  :2thumbs:

Just wondering ; did you try adding a spacer to the 337 on your last session with the 580 ? I'm wondering how the big engine would respond to increased plenum volume.  :scratchchin:

We're gonna try these configurations on mine ;

(1) 440 2D with 1050 (4150) quickfuel
(2) 440 2D with 1050 (4150) quickfuel + 1in spacer
(3) 337 with 1050 (4150) quickfuel
(4) 337 with 1050 (4150) quickfuel + 1in spacer
(5) 337 with 2in Dominator adapter and 1150 (4500)
(6) 440-2 with 1050 (4150) quickfuel
(7) 440-2 with 2in Dominator adapter and 1150 (4500)

Hey Ron, yes I used a 1/2" birchwood spacer made by AED.  Mainly just to insulate the carb from heat, not so much for plenum volume.  If you used any more than a 1/2" spacer, I don't think it will fit under the hood.  That was why I didn't try any other spacers.  On this build I will try some spacers because this is going in my Cuda with a shaker hood.  I have a lot more room to play with with the shaker.  What I am hoping will work well, is the 337 with a Wilson 1" tapered spacer to a 1050 dominator.  I think you will be happy with the 337 on your big motor.  I still have the 337 on my big motor.  Just so you know it takes a lot of work to get those to port match they leave them small.  I should be dynoing next week, and I'll let you know what happens.

That thing looks SWEET!

Ah, i only can dream for now  :'(

Brian, i dropped the K-frame in mine 1in with spacers so i do have some room to play with. The 1in carb spacer may work or maybe not. If it's an issue of runner volume & cross section then the added spacer won't make any difference. If the runners are adequate and it wants more plenum volume...the spacer will help. We'll know for sure in a few weeks.  :yesnod:

I'm sure yours will do just fine. BTW, your SR flow #'s are pretty close to my EZ 295 heads that Dwayne just finished up. The exhaust on yours is slightly better....i'm sure the raised port helps.

Ron, can you post a picture of the spacer you used on your K frame?  Thank you.

If I read this correctly, you stated you were rebuilding one of your "old" 500" motors that was 13 Y/O? What crank/rods/piston's did you have in the 13 Y/O motor?

hey cooter, the crank is one of the very early mopar performance ones.the rods are 6.760 childs and albert.the pistons were custom wiseco,s.
that motor lasted along time :yesnod: rip

Good luck Brian....i'm sure it'll be just fine with everything freshened up  :2thumbs:

Looking forward to your power numbers....they seem realistic given the combination of parts.  :yesnod:

I'm still WANTING, not nessesarily NEEDING a 500 Inch motor and I'm scared of the Eagle stuff now that I've seen a few cracked cranks..I'm in the same boat as most of you guys when it comes to spending the coin for this sh*t only to have that happen...For many, it really is a one time deal..One shot at it ...
