It amazes me the number of people who sell Road Wheel's as Magnum 500's on Craiglist and Ebay.  Do these people not know the difference?  I just saw Road Wheel's listed on Craiglist as Magnum 500's from a 1970 Challenger.

If I remember correctly, the magnums were called "road wheels" by Dodge in 68 and 69.  I believe they changed "names" in 70 calling them magnums and calling the rallye rims the road wheels.

As long as I remember, the Chrysler literature always refered to five spoke wheels as "styled steel road wheels" - not Magnum wheels. Rallye wheels were called "styled steel rallye wheels".

If I recall, the "Magnum 500 style" wheel was a brand name of Budd Wheel - who also sold these as aftermarket (with cross flag center caps) and Magnum 500 branding.

Generally..all wheels that 'touch the ground' are called road wheels (odd term). Chrysler called the five spoke version Chrome Road Wheels until 69 then they were Chrome Road Wheels with Trim Ring

It was actually Motor Wheel not Budd and in the aftermarket they were sold as Magnum 500's and I believe Ford may have also offered them under that name.  GM used a variety of names when they used them.  It's become a somewhat generic name for them I suppose with all the different oem names for the same wheel.

Interesting...might you have any factory info on that? What was the sales code number?

As Ghost alluded to I believe Magnum 500 is a name that Ford coined.

Ghoste

I don't know who coined it though because I'm pretty sure Motor Wheel sold them in the aftermarket with that name as well.  I'll have to ask some of my Ford buddies if the Ford version was sold with the "Magnum 500" center cap or a Ford one.  I know the aftermarket version got that cap but it could have been shared between the two.

True Magnum 500's have a chrome center and chrome rims, the misnamed ones have a painted rim with a beauty ring.

The Ford Magnum 500 has the Ford logo on the rim and uses 13/16" lug nuts, so the countersink for the nuts is larger than the countersink for the Mopar Magnum 500's.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

This was in my 66 Magnum wheel...don't know if they're original.
