If you're looking for a GOOD safe then getting a screaming deal should be your last concern. Yes, I know, these days we're all watching our finances through a microscope however, do a little math before you buy a safe just because you're getting it a little bit cheaper. First, list what the safe will contain. Guns, knives, coins, collectibles, documents, family heirlooms, pictures, etc. Second, start adding up what the replacement cost of all of these items is. The items I listed first likely have actual monetary values. Guns, knives and coins add up quickly 4-5 long guns of reasonable quality could easily total well over $2000. But you may have to think carefully for some of the other things. Documents such as car titles, birth and marriage certificates, and passports may be replaceable but at what cost? I'm not only talking about what it will actually cost to replace these documents but what about the time, effort and red tape? Then factor in items that are truly irreplaceable, pictures, family heirlooms, information gathered throughout your entire life. Lastly, there is the cost of identity theft. If your home is robbed not only can you loose thousands of dollars in physical goods but you can quickly loose hundreds of thousands to identity thieves.

If you really stop and think about it a truly high quality safe can potentially protect you from loosing hundreds of thousands of dollars so do you really want to buy a cheap one? Just my :Twocents:...

Liberty safe company is probably the best you can get and Gander Mountain stores run sales on them once in a blue moon...

All I can say is to get the best one you can afford. Also from my experiences it usually costs alot more if you go to a larger retail store. Cabela's will every now and then have a real good deal on them. Other than that you can check online for a few of them. The last one I bought cost me around 1800 at a Scheels Sporting Goods store. I probably could have got that cheaper if I had looked online, even after freight shipping. Mine is a Liberty, which I feel is a good company.

I agree about cheap saves though. Most of my rifles cost well over 1500 a piece.

I need to keep looking at Craigslist. There is always someone moving and take it with them.  I am more concerned about loosing my cars to a fire.  :o

Perfectly said... I have 3 gun safes in my house... One requires my hand print, the other is a 6' tall safe mounted in between wall studs with pine paneling in front of it (need to remove two boards to access it) and the other is beside my bed.

I got mine from Liberty Safes
http://www.libertysafe.com/

On Labor day they usually have a scratch sale witch translated to near perfect new safe with a minor blemish for 15 to 25% off. Got a 5 foot beauty that has all of the carpeted shelves, light, dehumidifier and digital touch pad.
