The ol' rotten trunk floor

I just got a quote today to redo my trunk floor since the recessed areas are rotton.   He quoted me $500 to $1000 and me supplying the material.   He would get the old floor cut out and the new one welded in and repainted.   Part of the cost he said would be to remove the old undercoating that is everywhere (done back in the early 80's) and would drop the gas tank.   Does that sound reasonable?   It didn't sound that bad to me.   Of course if there is more hidden problems that would be extra $$.
Over?! its not over until we say it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!...Hell no! and its not over now!..(Germans? Pearl Harbor?...shut up, he's on a roll)

$500 sound's OK. Is the undercoating on the bottem or top? In the trunk can be a bitch. Any PIC's?

undercoating is on both the undercarrage and in the trunk.   I don't have any pics right now, I'll have to get them my next trip to where it is stored.

they quoted me 1200 for replacing 1/4s and trunk extensions. 500-800 sounds right for only the trunk. Trunk replacing is a bitch. I started to clean up the trunkfloor since they put tons of bondo over the extensions. Once I removed that crap, I knew why :o
Mine will get the extensions done since the center pan is still solid.
Pics will beposted very soon.

Well, I am hoping there isn't much else wrong underneath the trunk...

I will.  It may be my pre spring project after the interior is finished.  I have to do something with all my parts in the basement first.

My advice is avoid any kind of undercoating INSIDE the trunk.   Had this in my Charger and had a bottle of tranny fluid or something of that sort leak on it.   Turned it into a gooey nasty mess that was a 100% complete and total b*tch to clean out.

The Year One trunk mats are pretty nice.  I would just prep and paint the inside very well, insure drainage, and use one of those...

I have installed several trunk floor pans, the worst part of the job is removing the old one! I put one in my friends 68 Satelite convert last year, and who ever had the car before him brazed in his own homemade trunk pan,and when it would rot out again,he would just braze in another patch over the last one! Some spots had 5 layers of brazed crap to cut out before I got to the original rotted trunk floor! It took two days of cutting with the plasma cutter, and using an air chisel to remove his handy work! $500 to a grand is not a bad price. When I install them I clamp the pans in place, then I go under the car,and trace the frame rails, and tank brace, then I remove the pans, and drill holes every inch and a half, just inside of the lines, and place the pans back in,and weld up all the holes, that way it looks like the way the factory did it.then I bead weld all of the edges, and the seam down the center, and dress the welds with a flap wheel. Then I blend the welds with All Metal body filler, and seam seal the edges where the pan meets the trunk extensions. Then I go under neath the car and seam seal the pan where it meets the frame rails. If you have to pay the grand, then make sure the guy does it right! Good Luck!
