LCA extra steel plate under bumper?

I bought a set of LCA's on eBay and they had a square (sort of) hunk of steel under the rubber bumper. The guy claimed they were off a 70 GTX, would that be correct? What did they do just raise the bumper some? My 70 Charger didn't have them and I've not seen them on other cars.  :scratchchin:

:iagree:

It was kind of random from what I have seen, although on A12's the engineering drawings called for them. Good to use in my opinion.

Used on cars with 15" tire/wheels combinations

Never thought to check my 14" cars vs my 15" cars....Going off to look... ;)

Found them in the 70 Parts Book under part number
2071727   For B, J, R, W, D and C  (No P though). No explanation or notes.
Low part number so they have been in use for a while.

I get it...to keep 15 inch tires from bottoming out, interesting. Thanks guys, between the 6 pack and the bumper plates my old car has inherited some GTX genetics.  :2thumbs:

Anyone got pics?  I think I know what you're talking about but I haven't seen it in a while.

in case anyone needs them , I know someone making them now

ChargerST

My 70 Charger R/T has them. It's a 440-4 car that came with 14" steelies from the factory...

It would be quite possible for a car to have them even though it was equipment specified for something else.  A temporary shortage of the correct one, an assembly mistake, a broadcast sheet typo, any number of things.
